It truly was one of Albuquerque’s best kept secrets. Ok...I'm really going to say what alot may not...my wrist hurts from cutting into a $28 cold piece of meat loaded with thick veins of gristle throughout. Only reason I'm going 2 stars is because the waitress was very nice. The Monte Carlo Steakhouse gained nationwide recognition when it was featured on an episode of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2008. The episode, aptly titled “Where the Locals Go,” showcased the genuine flavors and welcoming atmosphere that define the Monte Carlo experience. It takes a few seconds for your eyes to adjust to the dimly lit beef and beer palace by the Rio Grande–and when they do adjust, you’ll wonder if you stepped out of a portal into the 1960s.
Monte Carlo Steakhouse – Albuquerque, New Mexico
Excellent food & fantastic service!! The salad dressing tasted house made. The steak was cooked exactly like I asked. My boyfriend's pork was a little undercooked, but the waitress had the kitchen fix it & brought him fresh fries with his pork chops cooked through.
An institution: Monte Carlo Steakhouse serves up unpretentious menu, decent prices on old Route 66

I don't really understand why there were four empty booths and people waiting that were full parties but I'm sure they have a process. Besides that I was so happy that we went. He was delighted with his steak and the pork chops were lovely too. He enjoyed a drink while we waited for a table.

I got the 1/2 Tender Ribeye ($25) which was juicy and delicious overall. I was super hungry, and it was cooked to perfection. For my side option, I ordered the fries, which were pretty mid, I wish I ordered the baked potato instead.

As you step into the Monte Carlo Steakhouse, you will be embraced by an atmosphere that exudes coziness and invites you to indulge in a remarkable dining experience. From the very moment you enter, you will be enveloped in a warm and inviting ambiance that sets the stage for an unforgettable meal. The carefully crafted space is designed to provide a sense of comfort, allowing you to relax and fully enjoy your dining experience. With its rustic decor, gentle lighting, and timeless furnishings, the Monte Carlo Steakhouse offers a charming and intimate setting suitable for any occasion. As Fieri did, you can enter the steak house through a bustling package liquor store (which doubles as a veritable museum for even more collectibles).
The shrimp was dry and overcooked, the French fries were undercooked, and the fried zucchini was burnt. We hadn't been here in years, so this was quite a disappointment. Hopefully this review will be read and some changes will be made.
The inside is nicely decorated with antiques giving it a vintage look. Family friendly and you can also enjoy some wine from the bar. Really friendly staff very attentive to all your needs.
Monte Carlos is right on Central Avenue on the west side of the Rio Grande Bridge. It sits back a little from the road and there is a package store in front of it . So no wonder I totally missed it. The Monte Carlo Steakhouse is one of those places you go when you want excitement and friendly service. It's crowded, noisy and very busy. (I guess it wasn't a secret to a lot of folks!) Our family "birthday boy" requested dinner here.

For those who savor the dine-in experience, the Monte Carlo Steakhouse provides a cozy ambiance and attentive service that sets it apart. You can sit back, relax, and let Monte’s friendly staff take care of you while you indulge in the delectable offerings from Monte’s menu. I read the reviews and felt compelled to check out the steakhouse hidden in a liquor store. When I parked here I thought twice about going in based on the appearance but I am most certainly glad that I did. You will literally walk through a liquor store to a non-descript opening in the corner that will lead you to the amazing smells of meat grilling.
Terrific food and reasonable price. Call before you go to make sure they are open. This place isn’t much to look at from the outside, but they have GREAT food! I had the steak and shrimp, both of which were tasty and fresh. We can’t imagine ever sending the steak back.
Another “not to miss” entree is the Greek style chicken, a Thursday special. He also noted that “it’s about as basic as you can make it” and “as tender and juicy as you can get it.” The key is getting it. If you haven’t visited the Monte Carlo Steakhouse, it’s worth the drive from anywhere in the Duke City area just for this chicken. The Katsaros family still runs the restaurant. A small old school liquor shop that decided to add a kitchen... Fast forward 50 years and change nothing- boom here you go.

We eventually got it corrected and the salmon was fine. But the server literally argued with us about what was said. Made little effort to give us a pleasant experience. Not the hugest deal, but it was Ash Wednesday and my friend didn't want red meat.
A very “homey” atmosphere prevails which is always very appreciated. On the way out I thanked the cooks for their great cook on our steaks and all three of them were very appreciative! Another great meal at the Monte Carlo! If you haven’t been, you’re missing out. Only among avid collectors will you generally find Jim Beam decanters sporting the likeness of The King. The Duke City’s most prolific collectors of vintage adult beverage decanters, bottles and signage is the Monte Carlo Steak House on Route 66.
I would honestly say that for it's price point this is the best steak I've ever had anywhere in this country and I travel quite a bit. The whole experience is only made better by the fact that you feel as if you were part of some secret club because of the setting. I will definitely repeat the experience. Adding to the ambiance, the attentive and friendly staff contribute to enhancing your dining experience. Committed to ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and well-cared for, the staff at the Monte Carlo Steakhouse goes above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction. From the moment you are seated until the conclusion of your meal, Monte’s dedication and attentiveness are evident.
They were pretty good as well. The utilization of high-quality ingredients lies at the heart of the culinary masterpieces created at the Monte Carlo Steakhouse. From the very first bite, you will immediately discern the distinction that premium ingredients make. Monte’s unwavering commitment to excellence is reflected in the careful sourcing of the finest cuts of meat for Monte’s steaks, resulting in tender, succulent, and flavor-packed creations. This dedication to quality extends beyond steaks to encompass sandwiches and seafood dishes, where only the freshest ingredients are employed to achieve the perfect balance of flavors.
